Base Nature

The Base Nature is just to the west side of the port. It was previously a military air strip and is around a third of a mile square, extending inlandfrom the beach.

The old runway has been kept in good condition and provides a huge tarmac area for cycling, skating etc. Connecting with the runway towards it ends is a long tarmac track which, with the runway forms a continuous route for cycling and skating. For youngsters with their own BMX bikes, there is a BMX track with the usual slopes, jumps etc.

The base is served by a large car park (though it is only a 10 minute walk from the apartment) and has a swimming pool, cafe/restaurant and small gardens on the beach side. At the western side of the Base the area is more wooded and there are dirt tracks to explore on foot or two wheels. For anyone wishing to cycle outside the Base, a cycle track lies alongside the road that runs from the northerly side of the Base to St Agulf.

Segways in action
A variety of wheeled transport can be hired at the Base, including cycles, roller blades, and electrically powered Segways, which have two wheels on either side of a platform and are able to keep themselves upright whilst transporting the rider. Below is a copy of the hire centre's leaflet, that shows the variety of equipment that can be rented.
